An overview of EOI Madrid-Embajadores from a E+ perspective

The EOI Madrid-Embajadores is a publicly-funded institution for language learning. Established in 1994, it belongs to a national network of language schools that cater for adult education. Students in our school learn English (50% of students, 10 teachers), French (19%, 3 teachers), German (17%, 4 teachers) and Spanish for foreign speakers (13%, 3 teachers). There is a total of 20 teachers and 6 other members of staff. We have over 1500 enrolled students yearly, spread within these age ranges: 16-20 y.o. (15%), 20-40 y.o. (45%) and 40-65 y.o. (35%). The school is located in downtown Madrid, in the notably multicultural and colorful neighbourhood of Lavapiés. Remarkably, our student body is comprised of more than 50 nationalities.

As recognized in our ongoing KA104 project, these are the most significant challenges our school currently faces: (1) to expand our language curricula to include the C1 and C2 levels of the CEFR, in such a way that promotes both professional fulfillment and employability and also active participation in society; (2) to meet the high demand for enhanced media literacy and the use of new technologies and among our students, by exploring their benefits and deploying them in language teaching, both as a relation model in the classroom and as a catalyst for continuous learning out of the classroom; and (3) to embrace the multiculturality of our environment, while fostering the democratic ideals and values of the European tradition, project and identity.
